Don't Take the Feedback too Personally - It's Just Information

When receiving feedback, I always advise people to try and separate themselves from the emotional reaction(s) they are bound to experience as they go through the process.

Often people are tense and nervous when they begin, afraid of the 'bad news' they think they are about to receive about themselves. This attitude makes people automatically defensive and more inclined to try and reject the feedback they are given.

Dont take it personally - if you can help it.You will get far more out of the feedback if you relax and take an objective view about the information you are receiving. See yourself as the project - you are learning everything about you, (the project) - inorder to improve and develop and become the best you can be.

I believe that 360 feedback is essential information to help you manage your own 'PR' in your workplace. You need to know what people really think of you; how they genuinely 'see' you as you go about your role day-by-day. Sometimes the difference between how they see you and how you see yourself, can be profound.

Ideally, we want to be 'in control' and not out-of-the-loop when it comes to how people see us. We are more effective if we are able to align peoples' percptions with the image we wish to present.

It is important especially if we are eager to inspire and energise our followers in the direction of our goals and strategic vision.
