Drip -Feed the Results.

The process I adopt to facilitate 360 feedback differs from the 'here's your report, read it and act on it' approach.

I hear from people who have had 360 feedback before, that very often, they are given a report and told to go away and read it. The temptation then, is to flick through the results and file the report carefully in a draw and never to look at it again!

Revealing the results of the report slowly, over a period of a couple of days - depending on the number of questions involved - has much greater impact. It is harder for people to deny or ignore the feedback and, as a consequence, a greater chance that people will do something about changing their behaviour.

Participants who are given the rare opportunity to read, discuss and reflect on their feedback also have to confront the truth of the perceptions of others - at a deeper level.

The message, therefore is, "Take time". Ideally, present the feedback, in a group, over several sessions over several days. Drip feed the information. Melt the barrier slowly - give people time to learn about themselves, to adjust their reality and to figure out what, if anything, to do about it.
